WLPGA Member News – Liquid Gas UK

UKLPG changes its name to Liquid Gas UK

Given the need to present the LPG and bioLPG industry favourably in today’s political landscape of climate change and Net Zero, the name of the UK trade association has been changed to accurately communicate the vision of the industry.

This new name and identity is only part of the story in the transformation of the association. At a reception in London on 3rd July 2019, Liquid Gas UK launched their ‘2040 Vision’ for the industry with the headline announcing “The LPG industry aims to transition to bioLPG by 2040”. Demonstrating how the industry can move to a sustainable product and by an end date that meets the UK Government’s objectives is critical.

It is vital that the industry demonstrates clearly that it meets the Government’s requirements with the three elements of the energy trilemma – security of supply, affordability, cleanliness – and removing the link to a fossil fuel in the name of the association supports this message.

With the recent announcement that legislation will be introduced to ensure the UK is Net Zero with respect to carbon emissions by 2050, focus on this area of Government policy is intensifying. In light of this, it is essential that the industry is seen as modern and innovative, taking a lead in the transition from fossil fuel to a bio future.

The bioLPG pathway, as part of a mixed technology approach to decarbonisation, can support Government to achieve climate change targets in an affordable and non-intrusive way, and Liquid Gas UK will be working closely with the UK Government to demonstrate the industry’s commitment to delivering clean, secure and affordable energy for all.
