“Expanding Horizons” Forum Highlights

There were many highlights of the two-day Forum in Singapore, but most notably the keynote addresses by the Senior Minister of State of Singapore and Mr B. Ashok Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation. A remarkable discussion on the drivers of switching from more traditional fuels to Autogas started the main roundtable Expanding Horizons. In addition to the roundtables the event had parallel sessions focusing fundamentally on global changes of the LPG industry as well as strategies and best practices on raising awareness amongst decision makers on the switch to LPG, for instance in indoor cooking.

Another key theme was the synergies LPG has with natural gas. David Carroll, President of the International Gas Union (IGU), spoke during the opening panel. The IGU and WLPGA recognise that there are multiple synergies between natural gas and LPG and under the theme ‘further together’ the two associations are working together to maximize these opportunities.

Other Highlights

The official inaugural meeting of the Women in LPG (WINLPG) Global Network was hugely successful, very well attended by both men and women of the industry. Chaired by Nikki Brown Managing Director of Cavagna Group UKLPG, and included a presentation by Anita George of the World Bank, plus an animated roundtable discussion to assess the activities and priorities of this new WLPGA network. The feedback from the discussion will now be taken into consideration when determining the network’s next steps.

The Global Technology Conference (GTC), an annual event organised by WLPGA alongside the Forum, is the opportunity for companies to showcase the very latest technological innovation impacting the global LPG industry. With a look at general innovation and a focus on applications, this is always a unique opportunity to explore the latest technology the industry has to offer. As each year, this year ten papers, featuring some of the latest technologies impacting the LPG industry, were presented including some innovative applications for LPG as an engine fuel and as a residential energy source, some ways to improve LPG quality and safety, and some interesting ideas involving communications, packaging and distribution.

The best paper presented during GTC Singapore will receive the 2016 WLPGA Innovation award which will be presented next year on the 29th World LPG Forum & 2016 AEGPL Congress in Istanbul. This year’s Innovation Award winner was Mark Walls, of the Southwest Research Institute, who presented his paper – Direct Liquid Propane Injection on a Modern GDI Engine – in Miami on the 27th World LPG Forum. The runner up was Ms Anne Feudner, of Kohler Power Systems, who presented her paper – Application of Propane to the Mobile Rental Generator Market.
