The 25th World LP Gas Forum

The 25th World LP Gas Forum took place in Bali, Indonesia 11-13 September 2012. The event was a record breaking success and incorporated a variety of key industry events and launches.  More than 1,400 participants from 70 countries attended.

The Forum was officially opened by the Vice President Republic of Indonesia, Professor Dr Boediono, who delivered the opening keynote and who was accompanied in the opening ceremony by the Governor of Bali Mr Made Mangku Pastika and President Director Pertamina Ms. Karen Agustiawan.

Mr Muhammad Jussuf Kalla, former Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, delivered the keynote on Day 2 with an overview of how the Kerosene to LP Gas substitution programme was successfully rolled out in Indonesia.  Ms Karen Agustiawan, President Director of Pertamina also opened the Exhibition and warmly welcomed participants to the Republic of Indonesia.  The exhibition saw some 80 global exhibitors with booths extending over two floors.

The overall event also incorporated a dedicated Oceania Stream and the Global Technology Conference. Both events also saw record attendance.  The Oceania Stream delivered a comprehensive overview of market situations and opportunities in Australia and New Zealand. Mr Michael Carmody of LPG Australia called for a regional association for the Oceania region.  Other highlights included an overview of the Asian Developments Bank’s activities in the Pacific Islands from Mr Jiwan Acharya and a comprehensive overview of opportunities in Fiji and Vanuatu.  At the Global Technology Conference, over 300 delegates had the opportunity to explore some of the very latest and most innovative technologies in the LP Gas business.   Ten papers had been selected by the steering committee from over twenty originally submitted.  The papers were grouped into two sessions for LP Gas Applications and LP Gas Operations. The WLPGA also officially launched the new campaign Cooking For Life which works to reduce the negative health and social impacts of indoor air pollution.   The campaign is being driven by the WLPGA to promote the use of LP Gas as an alternative to traditional fuels such as various forms of biomass as well as other, toxic fuels such as kerosene.  The Campaign was launched to coincide with the UN’s initiative Sustainable Energy for All (SEFA) which was launched this year by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.   This was preceded by a keynote by Professor Kirk Smith, Berkeley University, USA who is considered the global foremost expert on the negative impacts of indoor air pollution.  The 25th World Forum was an undoubted success offering a unique combination of compelling presentations, a   sold-out exhibition and, as the premier event in the LP Gas industry calendar, unparalleled networking opportunities. The 26th World LP Gas Forum & 2013 AEGPL Congress will take place in London, UK 1-3 October 2013 (www.wlpgasforum-aegpl2013.com).  This event promises to be one of the largest Forum’s ever held, the exhibition is already sold out with a waiting list of exhibitors and a further exhibition floor may be opened up should the level of interest continue.

NOTE TO EDITORS: The WLPGA promotes the use of LPG worldwide to foster a cleaner, healthier and more prosperous world and aims to add value to the industry sector through driving premium demand for LPG, while also promoting compliance with good business and safety practices.  The Association unites both private and public companies involved in the industry into one strong independent organisation; it develops long-term partnerships with international organisations and implements projects on both a global and local scale.  The Association was established in 1987 and granted Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council in 1989.
